NIST MODERNIZATION
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), part of the Department of Commerce (DOC), is responsible for advancing measurement science, standards and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve U.S. citizen's quality of life. NIST operates in two main locations: Gaithersburg, MD and Boulder, CO. The Gaithersburg campus is currently focused on modernizing existing laboratories and adding new research facilities for new programs.
NIST is in Phase 3 of renovating their Radiation Physics Laboratory, also known as Building 245, located at the Gaithersburg, Maryland campus. Building 245 is a 200,000-square-foot multi-purpose radiological research facility that has provided continuous service for over 50 years.
Advanced Technologies & Laboratories (ATL) International Inc. is partnered with Hensel Phelps to assist in the demolition of Building 245. Our role in this project is to provide hazardous material assessment, radiation safety services, radiological characterization, remediation, decontamination, and radiation shielding design services.
