NIST SAFETY CULTURE
The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) is one of the world’s premier neutron research facilities, serving more than 3,000 researchers from over 260 organizations and accounting for nearly half of all U.S. neutron research. Its reactor produces neutrons that are used to study a wide variety of materials and phenomena. The reactor is operated by a professional staff of government employees (most originally trained in military reactor programs) and is licensed and regulated by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
ATL, developed an assessment of the NIST safety culture program and perform a comprehensive tailored assessment capable of determining the program effectiveness, identified areas for potential enhancements, communicated to NCNR senior leadership, and recommended improvements for maintaining and enhancing the effectiveness of the safety culture program.
NCNR will conduct training for all senior leaders, with support of ATL and partners which will include training on NUREG-2165, “Safety Culture Common Language” NCNR will incorporate this leadership training into an annual required safety culture refresher training for senior leaders.
